My photos don't do these color and texture combos justice, but areas of the garden that are bringing me delight at this moment include, these hostas and phlox...

hyssop and lemon balm...

purple coneflower and joe pye weed...

Purple coneflower and grasses and hostas...

pink malva and stella d'oro daylilies...

Fall 2018 to-do list

take out catmint - just not doing enough anymore to warrant keeping it around.

Move salvia to W. of arborvitea in place of catmint

need more early july bloomers - daylillies?
take out wormwood in patio bed
move bergamot from under evergreen to front raised bed
move pink malva from back raised bed to under evergreen with daylillies - pink and yellow make me happy. Or put malva where salvia was to bloom with the russian sage - pink and blue are nice, too:)
get more joe pye weed - seed or plant??
move sedum from back of house replace false blue indigo in front garden
move false blue indigo from front garden to back garden with its fellows
move hosta from raised part of rain garden to back of yard (kathy and al bed)
get another annabelle hydrangea for back of house, or weigela, or anything. how 'bout moving elderberry back there?

move phlox from patio bed to back garden - and try to group them together by color - masses not mingies, remember!!??!

And if there's space where the catmint was = how about more purple coneflower. Grow it from seed.

Composting in place

The compost bin is full, so I'm taking an idea from permaculture and using the weeds I pull as mulch...

then I cover them with a layer of grass clippings, to neaten the effect ...

and the grass clippings eventually brown and things look tidy-ish.
